The functionality Carbon CD has to offer revolves around CDs – data as well as audio CDs. You can use Carbon CD to create a disc image from a CD, to burn a disc image onto a CD, to clone or create a 1:1 copy of a CD, to master CDs and disc images, to rip songs from audio CDs, to erase CD-RW discs, and to view information about your optical drive (CD reader/writer).

To access all the functionality presented above, you won’t have to install Carbon CD. To get started with Carbon CD, you need only download an archive, extract its contents, and then run the Carbon CD executable. Please note that the system requirements for running Carbon CD are: 500MHz processor or better, at least 64MB of RAM, 5MB of free disk space; any Windows edition from Windows XP up to Windows 10.

All the functionality Carbon CD has to offer is very clearly presented on its interface. There are several large buttons on the interface, buttons that very clearly present everything that can be done with Carbon CD. Said interface provides support for skins; if you have an external skin, you can load it from the Settings menu, the interface submenu.

The Quick Look video that accompanies this article shows how easy it is to rip a song from an audio CD. Click on Read Track from CD, select the song from the TOC viewer, choose where you want to save the song, wait for the song to be processed. Using all the other Carbon CD features is just as easy as this using this one.

Carbon CD is free software. The developer asks users to not use Carbon CD to make illegal copies of copyrighted music.

Clone CDs, create and burn CD images, rip audio CDs – all these features are nicely covered by Carbon CD.

Pros

The system requirements for running Carbon CD are quite low; the application does not have to be installed. Carbon CD has a simple interface that provides support for skins. Carbon CD can clone data and audio CDs, create and burn disc images, rip audio CDs. Carbon CD is free software.

Cons

Carbon CD does not work with DVDs, not for now at least.
